Costa Mesa has evolved from humble origins as the grazing ground for cattle belonging to the Mission San Juan Capistrano into one of the leading cultural and business centers of Orange County. Ideally located just 37 miles south of Los Angeles and 88 miles north of San Diego, Costa Mesa offers more than 100,000 residents a warm, moderate climate and easy access to state highways 55 and 73, Interstate 405 and many of Orange County’s major attractions. The city is just a short drive away from Disneyland and Knott’s Berry Farm as well as mountain areas and high and low deserts. The southernmost border of Costa Mesa is just one mile from the Pacific Ocean and when the wind is blowing in off the coast, residents can smell the salty ocean air and the tang of wood smoke from beach bonfires.
